August 27,2011 –Assemblymember Fuentes’Family Resource Fair

February 10,2011 –Plants for Pacoima Charter

The Caminos del Pueblo/Complete Streets team (funded through RENEW) is working with the Parents’Center and Staff of Pacoima Charter,allies Tree People and HLAB Team,with help from the Urban Forestry Division to plant street trees in empty tree wells along Van Nuys Blvd. near Pacoima Charter Elementary School. More street trees is a great first step to make Pacoima more walkable and bikeable for everyone!  We had a very successful planting –check back soon for pictures.

January 13 and 15,2011 –Bicyclist and Pedestrian Counts

As Pacoima Beautiful is working on projects to improve our streets, it’s very important to know how many people are walking and bicycling now.  This will help us now how people use the streets, and how to make them better!  Please meet at Pacoima Beautiful and you will be trained how to complete the forms.  The counts will take place Thursday,January 13,4:00pm –7:00pm,and Saturday,January 15,9:00am –12:00pm.  There will be snacks!  Here is the flyer in English and Spanish.

January 29,2011 –Fruit Tree Giveaway

We would like to invite you all to Pacoima Beautiful on Saturday January 29th 2011 from 10:00am-12:00pm to our Free Fruit Tree Giveaway that we are hosting in collaboration with Tree People.  We have a total of 150 trees that we hope to give away to families in the community,we’ll have;apple,apricot,nectarine,peach and plum trees for our neighbors to enjoy.  Please come and enjoy this beautiful gift and please help us distribute this flyer to the community (the flyer has both English and Spanish versions).

November 20,2010 –Haddon Ave. Pedestrian Bridge Beautification and Community Clean-up

Saturday,November 20,from 9am-noon,we’ll be working hard and having fun to improve the walk home for hundreds of San Fernando High School students by revamping the Haddon Ave. Pedestrian Bridge!  Join Pacoima Beautiful,elected representatives,and community partners to clean-up,paint and plant a garden!  This event is part of our PLACE project to revitalize the Pacoima Wash,as this bridge crosses the Wash.  Max,our organizing team,and architects Mia Lehrer and Associates have worked in depth with residents and students to plan improvements the community wants to see.

September 18,2010 –Kermes Grassroots Fundraiser

Saturday,from 4pm-11pm at 12840 Montague St. here in Pacoima –we’ll be having a Kermes/Grassroots Fundraiser).  The event is free –there will be tons of live music,dancing,and delicious food for bargain prices.  Our members and organizing team have been working hard to make this event a huge success –getting the word out,making beautiful handmade decorations, gaining the support of the local business community (including some amazing raffle prizes!) and in general being impressive and dedicated at every turn!  Come out and eat,dance,buy a raffle ticket,celebrate with our community,and help support the work of our members to reduce pollution and improve the neighborhood!

September 17,2010 –PARK(ing) Day

This Friday afternoon we are having a Park(ing) Day celebration,the only one of its kind in the North East San Fernando Valley!  We’ll set up with some places to rest and relax,have a paleta (popsicle),and grab some bike and pedestrian info (thanks to the amazing Ciudad de Luces and Bike Metro!).  Park(ing) Day is a national and even international event on the third Friday of September,where communities temporarily transform a parking place for a car into a pocket park for the public!  Communities like Pacoima definitely need more open space for the benefit of people’s mental and physical health,as well as the health of the environment.  For more information about Park(ing) Day,visit REBAR’s website (they originated the event) or Park(ing) Day LA’s site.  We’d love to see you!
