After two years of hard work, the coalition RePower LA successfully helped pass their Community Solar pilot program. The first phase of the program, "Solar Rooftops" will provide homeowners in lower-income communities access to solar energy. Homeowners will be able to lease their rooftops to DWP for $360 annually and will not need to worry about installation or maintenance, as trainees from the Utility Pre-Craft Trainee Program (UPCT) will be utilized for such purposes. The energy that is created from these panels will feed into the grid, providing many other DWP customers with clean and renewable energy.

The next phase of the program, "Shared Solar" will be implemented in 2018 and will work to provide renters access to solar energy through the creation of solar gardens. The arrays of solar panels in public areas will allow renters to rely on clean energy to power their homes.
