Barbara Velasco is a first-generation Mexican-American and was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley. They recently graduated from Loyola Marymount University with majors in Urban Studies and Chicanx-Latinx Studies. Through their coursework, Barbara discovered a passion for environmental justice and vibrant, accessible urban spaces, as illustrated by their thesis “The San Fernando Swap Meet: An Exploration of Cultural Citizenship in Urban spaces.” Some of Barbara’s previous work includes being a Community Canvasser with Pacoima Beautiful, interning for CD2 Councilmember Paul Krekorian, and being the main organizer of MEChA de LMU’s Annual High School Conference. In their free time, Barbara likes to go to concerts and spend time with their cat.
