Agua University 2022 Application
DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM:
Summer Institute: Agua University Edition is a four-week environmental justice course filled with daily educational workshops geared towards middle school and high school students living in the Northeast San Fernando Valley. The workshops are a combination of indoor lectures and outdoor fieldwork days. This year our program is centered around water and environmental justice including the following topics: water science, supply and quality; habitat; land use; conservation; community development; park equity, and ways to take action. Students will receive hours of community service for their participation.
NATURE OF PARTICIPATION:
This is 4 week course Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 2:00 PM in person attendance is essential in this class; students must be committed to attending every class and arriving on time. Cell phone usage will be limited to breaks only, being present is part of the full experience of this program. We encourage students to have their camera on during the class.
IN PERSON MEETING AND COVID 19:
Due the contagious nature of the Coronavirus/COVID-19 and that the CDC and many other public health authorities still recommend practicing social distancing and we encourage wearing a mask.
Pacoima Beautiful has put in place preventative measures to reduce the spread of the Coronavirus/COVID-19 and participants are expected to follow to increase the safety of the group.
QUALIFICATIONS:
You must be a middle school or high school student interested in learning about environmental justice and water issues.
SKILLS:
The ability to work within a team and possess strong creative thinking skills and problem-solving skills; effective interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.

- Orientation: Parent or guardian must attend Monday June 13th at 5pm at Pacoima City Hall, 13520 Van Nuys Blvd, Pacoima CA, 91331- 2nd Floor
- Program Duration: Monday June 20th - Monday July 15th, 2022
