Pacoima Beautiful has worked diligently to address the health and economic impact of toxic facilities in our community such as the Valley Generating Station (VGS), in Sun Valley California. Valley Generating Station is one of the oldest in basin natural gas power plants owned by LADWP. From 2017-2020, VGS emitted large amounts of methane without reporting it to the local community. As a result of our the community advocacy and organizing efforts, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has agreed to wean its use of natural gas and seek new opportunities for clean energy options at the site. Also there are plans to demolish the red and white smoke stacks.
