Mother's Day at Descanso Gardens

Each year, we take a group of mothers from the Pacoima community on a special trip to Descanso Gardens to celebrate Mother’s Day and honor their care, strength, and leadership within their families.
This experience is designed to provide families with a dedicated space for nature-based recreation and meaningful multi-generational bonding. By offering access to the world-class botanical landscapes of Descanso Gardens, participants are able to enjoy unstructured time to explore, relax, play, and connect with the natural environment.

Our Community Inspectors program brings together passionate community members dedicated to strengthening neighborhood relationships and driving positive change. At our weekly meetings, participants gain tools and skills to launch campaigns that make our neighborhoods cleaner, safer, and more vibrant. Each week covers a new topic, and all ages are welcome!

Home Composting & Urban Gardening

This workshop will teach you how to turn kitchen scraps and yard trimmings into a nutrient-rich soil amendment. Home composting is taught by a team of ten rotating LA Sanitation & Environment green waste specialists. Each participant will take home a free garden plant at the end of the event. Some workshops even have surprise guests!
